Kitesurfing is a brilliant, exhilarating and intense new sport, yet, when taught properly, it is surprisingly safe and easy to learn. Taught badly on the other hand, or attempted without instruction, learning is not only difficult but often extremely dangerous.
At Kites on Board we have been teaching Kitesurfing since we opened in 2001. We only use fully IKO/BKSA qualified kitesurfing instructors and lessons take place at probably the best teaching beach in the south east of England, Camber Sands. Kitesurfing Safety
Safety is not just good for your health - feeling safe helps you learn faster. Teaching from the shallow waters of Camber, or from our boat on off-shore wind days, helps you feel safe at all times. This allows you to focus more on the kite and board and helps you progress much much faster.
“Thank you both for a fantastic weekend we both really enjoyed it, Emma was really nervous about it all but you both did an amazing job at giving her confidence” Former student, Jo Garwood.
Location
Heavy shore dumps, deep water, strong rips, big swells, stony beaches, lack of space. These are all too common on the beaches of south east England and can make learning to kitesurf harder and slower than it should be. At most tide-states Camber can offer fairly flat waste-deep water and plenty of space for those all important first runs. In off-shore conditions the sea state is generally smoother and boat support means depth is no issue.
Latest equipment
Today’s kites are unrecognizable from those even two seasons old - safer, easier to fly, with better stability and performance. That’s why we use only the latest Kites to teach with and not two-line kites that are three seasons old. This makes a huge difference to your rate of progression.
Off Shore Boat Teaching
We have found over the years that teaching out to sea of our RIB you can cover many miles in just a few hours. Please note this can be restricted by tide conditions and is not always used on all courses
A typical 2 day course is shown below complete with pictures
Day 1 Morning
Learning the set up, packdown and wind window theory skills required before your first land kite flight.
Day 1 Afternoon
Learning how to fly, Launch, land and control a kitesurfing kite on the beach at Camber Sands including skiing allong the beach under kite power.
Day 2 Morning
You will get dragged through the water by the kite with our rescue R.I.B following. We normally cover 5-8 miles like this This is awsome fun. Normally most schools would do this from the beach only allowing for a 20 meter drag
Day 2 Afternoon
You are now ready for your fist kitesurfing board attempts. Don't worry if you don't do any other board sports. If you can get the kite board on yourself by this point we have succeded so have you
